How much would it cost me for a gaming PC?

I have never really been a PC gamer but am considering it since there is so much drama with all of the console wars and all that stuff. Anyway, I have a pretty nice computer but it is only used for internet and work. It's not fast enough to run anything other than stuff like Super NES, Mame type games, and your basic PC games. My question is, what computer can I buy just to play FPS and Strategy type games at a good speed? I can afford a nice rig, but I'm not looking to spend a fortune like the hardcore PC guys do. Advice is appreciated. How much would it cost me for a gaming PC?
I think your looking at £700 for a decent gaming PC and twice that for a top end PC.How much would it cost me for a gaming PC?
700 is a regular can do it all PC

900 you got a ''decent'' gaming pc nothing too fancy but can hold its own.

Anywhere you guys recommend me looking online or retail wise? Any certain type of computer? Thanks!
I honestly just want one for games like Command and Conquer, Star Wars Galaxies, and Half Life.
You could make a decent machine for around 800 dollars w/o monitor.

Consider about 1.5 GB or 2 GB of RAM, a cheaper dual core like the lower Core 2 Duos, and decent graphics card.Heaven forbid, but if you get Vista, I%26#39;d suggest actually getting a GeForce 8500GT, 8600GT or the future 8600 Ultra (don%26#39;t kill me just yet my fellow PC gamers!) as they are not too expensive for you yet still provide good performance, and they are DX10 capable so they are somewhat future proof.  If you want to shell out some more money though, the best card on the market for the price is the 8800GTS, but it%26#39;ll cost you around $270 at least.  However, the 8800GTS despite being quite a great seller for the more mainstream market is still an ''enthusiast'' solution, so I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it in your case.  I guess it all comes down to how much money you%26#39;re willing to spend.

I recommend you check out the Dell XPS range. My current PC is a Dell XPS and it%26#39;s the best PC I have ever owned, never had a single problem with it and when I priced things up at the time it was cheaper than custom building one (mainly due to the monitor and free double memory offer they were doing) It%26#39;s a good choice if you can%26#39;t be bothered to build one.

Yeah, I'm not really interested in building one. I'm lazy like that :) I just want one I can go into a store, get home and set it up, and then upload a few games on. I'm looking in the $800 range.
About 1000 euros
How about this one? Would this be a decent game system ... http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/print_summary_details_popup.aspx?~lt=print%26c=us%26cs=19%26l=en%26oc=DXCWNE3%26s=dhs%26fb=1%26leadtime=5/17/2007%26showleadtime=True
looks pretty good......
Dells are nice, I love the XPS ones, but they seems to be too expensive.......You can also check out Tigerdirect and or Newegg, click on desktops and then gamingPCs, and look for the one that has Nvidia Geforce 7600GS or 8600GT graphscard atleast. Their gaming price range from $500 to $2000 or more, but if you go to BestBuy you%26#39;d get it today for a great deal too like, HP, Gateway, etc.Im building my own gamingPC, I spent like about $800 and still not ready to play yet, I shoulda bought one and I probably been playing weeks ago. LOL

I agree, at least get a 7600(preferably higher) I%26#39;ve got a lower end graphics card and it%26#39;s really limiting(frame rates), on newer games.Nothing is more frustrating than watching your game lag down.
You can get a nice one for £650-£700 and a great one for about £1,000. Esspecialy if you%26#39;ve already got stuff like monitor and DVD-ROMs.
Please check out the PC Hardware board.
