Everquest 2 is really poorly optimized.

With my intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 8800 GTS Overclocked and 680i Motherbard and 2x512 ram duel.. this game with everything maxed just plays, really bad, even with shadows off!! I certinaly wouldnt mind if the graphics were good, but lets be honest, this game is no Fear or Far Cry, games which i can max out with nooooo trouble. Got me thinking, did they optmize it poorly so that future hardware would take advantage of it or they just dont know how to optimize their game engine?Everquest 2 is really poorly optimized.

The game has always had performance issues.  Back when it was released, word from the devs was that the engine was built to ''scale with new hardware.''  In other words, it was poorly optimized (to your point).With your hardware, you should be able to run the game in Very High Quality mode with some of the features reduced, just not the Extreme Quality mode.   There are a couple threads on the Official Forums about tweaking the options for the best visual quality, if memory serves.
I admit the game isn%26#39;t necessarily the best optimized game, but hey, its improved a lot since it%26#39;s launch. With my AMD X2 4200+, 2GB, 7800GT, I can run it a level below max flawlessly.

Everquest 2 is done an over with move on rofl...The game sucks played it for a year an a half...Never gave me the thrills that the first eq had..Sad to say the devs messed with the best...They shouldve stuck with the original formula...Instead what did they do try an make it family orientated like wow...Game just sucks period..Move on like i have to better games an better mmorpgs..

I may not play EQ2 (anymore), but this topic was on RUNNING the game. Not whether or not some amateur thinks it is a good game or not.
