Counter Strike - 1.6 or Source

i dont have any steam/half life/valve games on my pc and i dont intent to. 1.6 is 10 bucks and source 20. should i start with 1.6 and get good with that or just go straight on to source.Counter Strike - 1.6 or Source

ummm, you need steam to play 1.6 or source.
I do believe you need Steam to play any Valve game. Of the two, I think Source would fit better for a newer player such as yourself because starting out in 1.6 will take A LOT of adjusting as it is without a doubt a harder game.
Get both.
They're basically the same. They have the same standard skins and maps just Source runs on the kick @$$ Source engine. Also, to play on the PC (which i'm assuming you're planning on doing since you posted it here) you HAVE to have STEAM to play. If you buy the box at a place like Walmart or w/e it will install STEAM and make you make an account. So if you dont want STEAM you cant play Counter Strike except on the consoles which are just horrible ports.
Source and I would never consider buying 1.6 again only 1.5

1.6. It%26#39;s got more players, more servers, more maps, takes more skill, and the maps aren%26#39;t screwed up. Although most are fine in source, you take a look at inferno and it%26#39;s just bad.
