Half Life 2 - Demo vs. Full game?

Well, I thought I would be able to run this game just fine, but when I downloaded the demo, it lagged like a ****.  I have a GeForce FX 6600 graphics card, 1024 RAM, and a 2.4 ghz processor. Is it just the demo that%26#39;s laggy? Because I could have sworn the last time I checked the recommended system requirements for this game I passed.  So yeah...is it just the demo that%26#39;s horribly programmed? I remember downloading a Halo trial demo too 2 years back and it did the same thing. I should be able to run this game just fine...but there%26#39;s no way for me to tell for sure unless I buy the real version or something. Half Life 2 - Demo vs. Full game?
Well I can run the game quite well on my 256mb GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache...Half Life 2 - Demo vs. Full game?
Although I have not tried the demo, I have been able to pull off playing the full game with a weaker system than yours. I even managed to get it to work on a 500mhz p3 with 320mb ram and 6200, but framerates weren%26#39;t perfect by a long shot.
So do you guys think it%26#39;s just the demo? I%26#39;m thinking it is...the audio even cuts in and out.
What kind of video settings are you trying to run the game at?Also, there%26#39;s no such thing as a GeForce FX 6600. Do you have a GeForce 6600, or a GeForce FX5600?
Just buy the game, or you%26#39;ll miss out on a truly GREAT experience :)
My bad, it%26#39;s just a GeForce 6600. I tried all the settings, but they all performed the same (obviously the lower settings a little better, but still horrible). I%26#39;m pretty sure it%26#39;s just the demo. I%26#39;m contemplating buying this or SSX Blur for my Wii, xD. The only reason I would buy this is because of the online...ness. I would only buy this game if it had an awesome multiplayer. So, does it?

Also make sure you%26#39;re not trying to run with anti-aliasing on.And Half-Life 2 doesn%26#39;t have much in the way of Multiplayer. It has deathmatch, which is unique because of the gravity gun, but thats it. No one buys HL2 for its online content, they buy it for the single-player.

I bought Metroid Prime once upon a Gamecube when I had it even though it didn%26#39;t have online content at all. I%26#39;m broke and jobless (looking to change that). I just need a game that will keep me going for a few months, at least. Usually, when I find a good FPS I%26#39;m entertained for a good while. But I am looking for a good online play.

Why didnt you played the greatest game ever exist? HL and HL2 is the greatest FPS ever. Play both of them. And sure your missing something. A geforce 6600 can play the game as smooth as butter.

Well you have my dearest thanks, gentlemen. It must be the demo that%26#39;s causing all that lag, as I thought. Why do they program the demos so horribly if they want you to buy the game? : / Doesn%26#39;t make sense.
Dude, you seriously have to check your computer because Half-Life 2 is made to run even on a GeForce 4 at Direct x 8. It's not the game, there's something about your computer that disagrees with it and it's probably its condition, settings or drivers rather than specs. By the way, the Game Of The Year version of Half-Life 2 is no longer available online via Steam. If you are lucky, you might find it in a store somewhere. If you can buy on Steam, you can either choose to buy Half-Life 2 standalone, the Valve Source Pack (features HL2 Deathmatch, Day of Defeat Source, Counterstrike Source, all multiplayer), or buy Half-Life 2 Episode 2, a sequel to Half-Life 2 which comes with free Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. If that confuses you, just visit steampowered dot com and learn all about it or you can just peruse your Steam Store since you are already with a profile given that you are running the demo.
lol dude I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s my computer. I play Call of Duty 2 (higher system requirements) just fine. I honestly think it%26#39;s just the demo. But yeah, I%26#39;m not sure if I%26#39;ll be able to find the game of the year thing anywhere. If it comes down to it, will I be fine with just Half Life 2, standalone? I%26#39;ll try and get %26#39;em both, but just incase...will I be fine with the second one? : /
