yeah at the beginingHalf-Life 2 and Orwell's 1984...
I thought the same thing! Now if only they mande HL2 in movie form...
Absolutely. HL2 barrows many of its themes and storyline from the Dystopia genre of writing. In addition to 1984, the devs also incorporated some cocnepts from other novels. In HL2, Gordon reaches legendary status like V from the graphic novel V for Vendetta, he acts as a beacon for the oppressed populous to rally behind. Also, Dr. Breens vision of a better future for humankind ''among the stars'' is a sentiment shared by the society found in Yevgeny Zamyatin%26#39;s novel We, where the main character is working on a ship to take humankind to the stars, yet his people are oppressed.I have only read a few Dystopia-based books, but HL2%26#39;s story definately seems in line with the themese found in the genre.
I%26#39;ve come to find lots of movies and games borrow plotlines from books. theres nothing wrong with this at all, its just a lot of people tend to overlook this fact.
yea, thats why i loved half life 2%26#39;s plot, cuz 1984 is like my fav book of all time
Yeah, I agree, I love the bit at the start of HL2, it%26#39;s so atmpospheric and puts you in a fantastic, abnormal environment, I love the way the guards are patrolling and making sure you don%26#39;t get up to mischeif, and the way the people sound depressed and slightly scared, it%26#39;s absolutely fantastic.

Hahah ya, that opening train station seen was a good opener. ''Dont drink the water. They put something in it...to mke you forget.'' Then that guy mumbling to himself about how the trains always come in but they never leave, and the interrogation rooms. Creepy.
one thing is for sure, The dudes at valve are excellent at telling a story
Throwing pop cans at the guards then running around was a hoot for a while lol. I loved the game setting, especially the whole ''big brother is watching you'' thing going on. Combine soldiers were freaking cool too. I%26#39;d love to go as one for halloween. The air boat level could have been a bit shorter though.

the airboat level was wayyyyy to long, plus at the beginning you dont have much time to shoot around with weapons then the long ass boat ride comes into play.

The airboat level is nice, helps to create feeling of distance...BUT it%26#39;s way too repetitive.

In terms of pretty much everything...Half-Life 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>> 1984The only thing that stuck with me out of 1984 was ungood, plus-good, double-plus ungood, as so on, which does kick ass. The rest of it I can only hold responsible for gathering an army of idiots that are into the habbit of screaming ''ZOMGBIGBROTHER'' whenever they see a surveillence camera at a gas station.
