Be very careful when you play games on steam. While I was playing I got a chat contact from a person who appeared as a STEAM VAC SECURE Administrator. And I was stupid enough at the moment to give in. I even kept questioning him for the reason. And was threatened that he was a STEAM employee and would have to delete my account if he couldnt have the info. Thinking about this over and over now I know it doesnt make sense. That said, never request friends through STEAM account. There are some smooth talking scammers out there. Luckely, I have been able to report the issue to STEAM, But its a real pain.Specifically, I was playing Day of Defeat Source on a fun 4 forts map. I have reason to believe this could happen there again, if someone accepts to talk to someone appearing as a VAC ADMIN. Never give your password. A simple rule I slipped by accident. I hope justice is served for this guy. That he will be caught if possible. If not, I just hope he cant get my Credit Card info.STEAM scam alert

I dont think you understand how easy it is to make mistakes like that sometimes. And Im not stupid, and dont like being called it for those reason. I made a mistake. This chatter seriously appeared as an employee of STEAM in my eyes. People are sick, and Im pissed of. So please dont taunt me about it.
I can%26#39;t continue this without insulting you...i%26#39;m sorry.
I am offended. But Im not stupid.... In long term. This is one of thse days were you wish you had a time machine. But all I have is my contact to STEAM support. And I hope they can fix my little mishap. No one likes being scammed. And it can happen to anyone. Thus my warning.
Don%26#39;t worry we will be fine, we aren%26#39;t all as stupid as you.
Thats what I was thinking. I actually have two extra steam accounts anyway..I bought Hl2 game of year edition + the CSS one to get Day of defeat lol. So i made a new account, then my friend traded me his account for F.e.a.r. 360..I didnt care because I had it on PC already.
It just pisses me off so much. That I gave into the scam without knowing. I know better I really do. I should have freking ignored him. It happened in a pop up window that made it look like an official STEAM support chat.
i was in a cs clan a long time ago and one of the kids in the clan did that exact scam. after a week he literally had like 50 accounts the truth is there are a lot of people out there who are that dumb, and you sohuldnt be bashing the OP for trying to help.
i was in a cs clan a long time ago and one of the kids in the clan did that exact scam. after a week he literally had like 50 accounts the truth is there are a lot of people out there who are that dumb, and you sohuldnt be bashing the OP for trying to help.
For trying to help? what do you think he%26#39;s the first person to be scammed? I mean have you even seen Steams websites they have warnings saying not to do this kind of stupid stuff. I think its common knowledge to not give info when people can change names in the messanger to OMGLULULUADMINGIMMEPASSB4BAN
OK it was STUPID, I GET IT. Stupid to even post about it. You people must just outway me in smartness... I must be so braindead to do something stupid. I am aware of these kinds of SCAMS. I am warning becasue there are times were we are forgetful of the fine prints. And becasue I just felt I had to say something.
just because steam has warnings doesn%26#39;t mean that the OP isnt trying to help. my point is still valid even after you posted after me trying to shoot it down. it made no sense... he isnt the first to be scammed thats the point. that means there are more like him and the more people that see the warnings (be it here or on steam%26#39;s site) the better.
lol really, the only reason the guy added you to friends after finding you in a game was because he thought he had a chance in tricking you. Maybe you are a bit dumb :D Sadly no one has ever tried getting my account info :( I wanna mess with them.
Don%26#39;t worry we will be fine, we aren%26#39;t all as stupid as you.
lol... you could have been a little nicer...but really, im sorry but I don%26#39;t feel bad for anyone who gets tricked into giving out their password... It could be worse you could have gotten a Darwin award... right?
YEAH LOL YOU ALL HAVE A GOOD LAUGH ABOUT IT> NOW STOP. The fact is I wasnt too sure myself. So I thought I would mess with the guy aswell to see if he would spit out some info that just didnt sound right. But to my blatant stupidity, he was able to trick me.Being said, it was my mood art the time. The mood you are in can really affect the choices you make. I had a little fear maybe some anger. Thoughts that all my account information might slip away either way. I just was trying to save my account and did the opposite. So, stop making this a opportunity to point out my stupidity.
I wish someone tried that on me. Then I would stick it to him. Probably give him a fake account and mess with him a little bit.
I wish I did the same. I really do. Better yet, I wish I just didnt talk to him at all. I learned my lesson.
Every single game service and basically everything says ''We will not contact you via Instant Messenger''
I wish I did the same. I really do. Better yet, I wish I just didnt talk to him at all. I learned my lesson.
Did he actually steal your account? Or was he just close to stealing it?
Haha!
