I%26#39;ve been on a bit of an old school gaming rush lately and I%26#39;ve finally decided to take a shot at x-com ufo defense. My question is, how good is x-com in this day and age? Apart from the graphics and sound of course. Also has anyone played the PSX version of the game? If so is it exactly like the x-com for the PC? because I would really like to play this game on my psp. And how the hell do you run the demo? Is X-com UFO defense still good?

[/QUOTE] Actually the PS1 version is superior to the PC version in that they upgraded the graphics, sound effects and music while taking nothing away from the original gameplay. The control sucks for it, but I bought the mouse for it when it was out. And to answer your original question... yes, it is still an awesome game!
X-Com%26#39;s always a good game.
UFO: Extraterrestrials is out and it plays exactly the same as X-Com with better graphics. Animations are a bit stiff and there%26#39;s the horrible intro movie, but solid tribute to X-Com.

And absolutely nothing has been taken away from the PC version? If this is true then I%26#39;ll get the PS1 version to play on my psp. Oh, and how is X-com apocalypse in comparison to UFO defense?
You might need the Windows XP patch for the old X:COM, if you look around you should be able to find it. Apocalypse is pretty good, but it has a very different style than the first two. It is much more cartoony, but it%26#39;s retro style is done very well. Alot of hardcore defense fans don%26#39;t like it because of this and the included real-time combat option, but you can still play turn-based and the style is actually pretty attractive. It just won%26#39;t scare the **** out of you like defense did.

Yes. It%26#39;s still; damn good. Plus with recent re-release on Steam for mere 2.45$ you have no excuse to not buy it :) Now APocalypse, personaly I loved it, it was very refreshing experience. Don%26#39;t listen to hardcore x-com fans, they are never satisfied (they based UFO2 because it was too similiar to original and bashed Apocalypse because it was too diffrent :) )

Still an excelent game!
I bought X-Com TftD from Steam yesterday and got stuck playing it for several hours!
Can%26#39;t wait to get home after work and play some more!
Now all we need is for 2K to realse UFO Defence / Enemy Unknown and Apocalypse on Steam too!!

Sure, it is very simmilar (even the GEOSCAPE song has a similar tone to that from the original XCOM), but it doesnt play like it. Ive benn playing UFO ET and its fine, but still not quite up to the level of Xcom.
To the OP: please do yourself a favor and get Xcom 1, 2 and 3. These are all great games. From what you say, you are willing to accept the old school graphics and sound, so you are going to love the gameplay (most gamers today go by the graphics motto: if it doesnt look excellent, its crap). So, get those games quickly and be ready to put your life aside for quite some time :P :P :P :P
Well, X:COM may not have been scary as in you%26#39;re gonna piss your pants when something jumps out on the screen, but it was very intense. The freaking chryssalids could come out of nowhere and they%26#39;d turn your guys into aliens. Leaving behind your guy%26#39;s skin. It was just very dark and creepy. Oh, and the explosions had skulls in them- that was freaking awesome. Trust me, waiting through the aliens turn is not a fun experience. Oh, and make sure you use the tank things, AWP%26#39;s or somthing. My first few times I got my ass kicked when I didn%26#39;t use them, they make it far easier, at least in the beginning when your soldiers suck.
Does anyone know about an Xp version of x-com? Or is it only available for dos? Also is there a way to make the resolution higher? Because looking at the screens the res seems extremely low.
X-Com UFO Defense/Enemy Unknown is still the best game EVER made. There%26#39;s an XP patch you can get that makes it easier to play. I%26#39;d highly suggest picking up UFO: Extraterrestrials if you%26#39;re a fan of X-Com, in fact I%26#39;d say it%26#39;s a *must buy* for fans. It%26#39;s the closest thing to a remake we%26#39;ll ever see.....it%26#39;s good stuff :)

Also is there a resolution patch for x-com? I%26#39;d love to try it with increased resolutions.
What do you mean by moving the camera? Why is it hard? Is it moving too fast or something? As far as a resolution patch, I highly doubt it.... Get UFO:ET if you want to play in higher res :)

I think I%26#39;ll just get the game for my psp, since I%26#39;ll be able to enjoy it in higher res and I can take it on the go.

Although you%26#39;ll probably need to run a program like ''turbo'' to slow down your cpu to run the game properly. The PS1 version was pretty bad overall, not just because of controls...but because the loading times were insane. Not too sure how it would run in a PSP emu.... I might try it myself soon.
